Exactly 365 days ago is when the BotBQ was unveiled to civilization on planet Earth at the very first #OS3DC, Open Source 3D Drucker (Drucker = Printer in Deutsch) Convention (OS3DC 2014 is coming up btw). Before that day, and many days since, there were times I almost just gave up on the BotBQ all-together; throwing in the towel and saying “I’m no engineer… I’m not smart enough to be doing this… who do I think I am and why the hell am I trying to build a 3D Food Printer that prints hamburgers… I can’t do it!”
But guess what…?
Although I am no trained engineer, have absolutely no background in electronics (well.. besides some light phreaking [see: 2600] back in the early 90’s), didn’t own a solder gun until last year and code like a 4 year old….. I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t give up. It was way more than enough motivation knowing that I was being pushed and motivated by some heavy-hitters in the Open Source 3D Printing game such as Mark Moissette, Gina Haußage, Nilz Hitze, Jeremie Francois, Florian Horsch and Marcus Link but to be lucky enough that I could lean on them for advice or guidance if I needed to has been a life-altering experience, literally. I’ve been asked to speak at events, spent time with some super-amazing people such as “THE Joris” van Tubergen and David Braam (look at all the name dropping going on here…) and have built close relationships with people thousands of KM’s away [see: Luis Rodriguez aka @3DigitalCooks].
Everyone mentioned above has had an impact on my life whether they know it or not, and I have no choice but to pay it forward through the BotBQ. Although it hasn’t been an easy project and there have been many bumps in the road I do plan to continue to develop the BotBQ and be part of the community as often as I can. It has taken much longer than I thought to make the ideas I have for it come to fruition but little by little they are starting to come to life, which brings me to the title of this post…
I’m going to bring a new version of the BotBQ, not only the extruder this time, to #OS3DC 2014! It’s happening on 29-30 November 2014 in Frankfurt Germany and you should come too. Go To http://os3dc.org and sign up to attend or speak at this awesome event and join me there where I might actually be able to share one of my 3D Printed Burgers this time (of course this is Germany so you’ll have to sign a lot of paperwork to eat one legally and protect me from getting sued if you get sick)
Are you going to OS3DC? Click below to Tweet RIGHT NOW that you are:
Tweet: Let’s goto #OS3DC and eat some #3dprintedfood with @BotBQ 29-30NOV in Frankfurt http://ctt.ec/kU1aT+
If you don’t remember I’ve put the video below of what happened at last year’s OS3DC.
Look forward to seeing you there!
